School Safety

Updated: Oct 8, 2021

As police officers for the Middlebury Schools community, we are constantly striving to increase the whole safety of the education environment in each of our K-12 buildings. While we cannot disclose every facet of safety measures in place, we can ensure every aspect of our training and research is focused on our abilities to protect students and staff. We meet and exceed annual training mandates by the Indiana Department of Education and the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board.

We have received numerous concerns about traffic on campus this school year. You can expect to see some additional signage soon and may have already seen an increase in law enforcement presence. Please exercise extreme caution, especially when driving on all our campuses!

We are heavily focused on reports of smoking in our high school bathrooms. Many citations have been issued and will continue to be issued to those using tobacco or electronic smoking devices in and around our buildings. We ask that you continue to support our efforts to provide a safe educational environment and by modeling healthy lifestyles at home. Remember, use of tobacco and tobacco related products are prohibited on all of our school campuses.

Once again, we are coordinating and hosting emergency response training for other local law enforcement agencies before the end of October 2021. This training will further enhance our emergency response skills with a multi-faceted approach to include de-escalation. More to come..........
